Question: " do mean to tell us you think the new morning show @ XL is working for free? "

Answer: No, but you can bet that an unproven show being given a shot at syndication ( Richmond is it's second location ) is going for next to nothing.

Question: Do you think COX's John boy and Billy are working for free?

Answer: John Boy and Billy are owned by CC and are on a contract with the Planet that'll expire soon.

You mention they're from out of town. True. They're a successful syndicated show.

Let me ask you a question; think the support staff helping to make their show successful is getting paid?

I've been to Charlotte and sat in on a show.
It's impressive. They've got a huge staff.

Next question; think XL 102 put any money into supporting Mr McKee?

Allow me to answer that one, having worked at both stations. No.

Mr Foxx was kept because he made very little money ( he's a good jock, he was being exploited )

One guy against a roomful of people. Not quite a fair fight.

I had to monitor XL when I was across the street and they played a bunch of music in the morning.

Much of the music that XL plays ( or played, remember when they were all grunge? ) chased
away more listeners than it ever attracted.

The station, their support, both promotional and financial has a lot to do with ratings success. It's not always just the talent.

I also think it's fascinating that people suppose that they know what Clear Channel's real game plan is. I like Jeff Wicker. I work with him every day. He's a very pleasant guy. I really hope he stays.

Clear Channel has demonstrated a pattern of getting rid of expensive ( read that as anything that costs more than minimum expense ) shows. They've done it one by one here in town and one by one all over America. Who's to say they won't do it with Q too? If you go by their past behavior, Wicker is toast. Hope not, but that's the way the company does business.
I am so sick! No, I mean sick!

Ok, I'm really gonna cheapen the conversation here. But stick with me. I just finished watching some show about Gilligans Island. Hey stop laughing. I grew up on that show and now my kids watch it. Sure beats MTV. Anyway they didn't hold back any punches when talking about how CBS didn't want to do the show because it wasn't funny and none would like it. You see, they told Sherman Schwartz, (No idea if I spelled that right)that they knew what was funny. "After all, look at our track record." This angered me to no end because I could relate so strongly. Those tight shirt lousy excuse for dental floss were acting like the success of CBS was because of them. Now I know that they played some kind of part in the whole thing. But dang! Give credit where credit is due! It was the actors, the writers and the crew that made them successful. Not number crunching. Just like with us! We are the ones people hear. We are the ones that people relate to when they turn on the radio. Not some suit. Wow, I sound like I just figured something out that none knew. Sorry, I'm on Ny-Quil. I can't tell you how many times Osama Bin Lassman and Randal Bloomquief told me, "Don't you worry, we know what we're doing." Well, long story short, Everyone knows the success story of a tiny little sitcom that helped pull CBS out of the pile where they could only, See-B-S. I only wish I knew what happened to the people who decided to yank the show so we could watch history repeat it's self in our medium.

On a side note for those who might like to know. Gilligans Island was pulled after 3 very successful seasons so CBS could run re-runs of Gun Smoke. A great show in it's own rite but the reason for this decision was that the CEO's wife had a hard-on for Gun Smoke. So the switch was made.

Sorry everyone. But I have been so sick today that all I did was sleep. Now I have insomnia So now it's time for more, much more Ny-quil.

Hope I haven't made anyone mad because that was not my intention.

The guy's name is Sherwood Schwartz as in " I Sher wood like it if Lassman got on the air and admitted he blew it and fired himself. "

To paraphrase the theme song of another old sitcom, sing along to the tune of Mr Ed as we pay tribute to losers in suits, a.k.a., no talent overweight, leightweight management:

1,2,3...

A suit is a suit
and it ain't cute
when I think about how much they suck I boot

And how they get to keep the loot
while rendering talented careers moot
they're certainly creatures of ill repute

Whoever heard of a thinking suit?

Latest news scandal: Power 92 bribes Arbitron to be honorary number one. The latest scoop is that they pay exorbitant amounts of money so they can lie and say they are number one. We all really know that Q94 is the best. You guys really need to stop your whining, McKee is gone, good riddance. Get over it.
Clean Steve
Posted on Tuesday, October 16, 2001 - 3:59 pm:

Dirtysteve, your last post was so full of horse manure I don't even know where to begin. So now
you can bribe Arbitron?

Clear Channel has plenty of money, I think they should bypass broadcasting altogether and simply bribe Arbitron.

We all don't really know that Q94 is the best.
And in terms of whining about McKee being gone, the same people who own XL 102 own your precious Q94 and their master plan is to eliminate any air personality making more than minimum wage. Say goodbye to Mr Wicker next time you see him.

Don't you see that by accepting things the way they are because they don't directly effect you now only makes it easier to allow them to do something that gets to you later?

Probably not, because that would assume you had a brain and based on your last post, you do not.

And the bartender in It's a Wonderful Life was Sheldon Leonard, who also produced the Danny Thomas Show and was the cartoon voice as King Leonardo

Now Dirty Steve, good riddance

Hey Clean Steve do mean to tell us you think the new morning show @ XL is working for free? Do you think COX's John boy and Billy are working for free? By the way they aren't broadcast from here either - and they kicked McKee's •••! Do you think management at CC got tried of watching McKee get his ••• kicked? (One good book in a 2-3 year span does not a good morning show make!)

You think, the afternoon guy @ XL (whoever he is!) is working for free? Are you working for free? are you working at all? God, why even bother I'm going back to McDonald's - To work for free no doubt!

Posted on Tuesday, October 16, 2001 - 6:00 pm:

Actually, I think it was Clear Channel that has recently bribed Arbitron. Let me explain. (The following is just my recollection of news articles that I really didn't pay much attention to so if anyone out there can shed light on this please do so) Not long ago Clear Channel made an announcement that they would not renew contracts to purchase Arbitron reports. This was a major thing for Arbitron because it meant the loss of millions to Arbitron. Well, deals were made and things were hammered out and Clear Channel is back in bed with Arbitron. Now I have no idea what kind of deals were made. For all I know it could have just been over price. But knowing Clear Channel, I'm sure other deals were made that we will never hear about.

Does anyone know anything about any of this? Or did I just dream all that up?

Hey anon, I'm no expert ( that's because I'm in sales ) but in XL 102's target demo, McKee beat John Boy and Billy regularly, including last book) There is also so much more to that story, but I assure you it has nothing to do with ratings.

Let's all agree upon one thing: no more rooting for people to be terminated.

It's us against them.

Only the blind can't see the pattern being sewn by CC. Cut costs, fire people.

Bring in syndication or lower priced, most often inexperienced people who probably won't do as good a job.

When doing a good job isn't the barometer of keeping your position, something is very wrong.

Let's all stop wishing the worst for people and realize who the true enemy is.

It is odd how unscathed Q94 has been in the blood bath at Basie Rd. They even have an overnight guy! They are a pretty active station, I guess they need all of their people to do all of the appearances. The station does sound much better than it did a year ago. Anybody remember how bad it sounded when they made the switch to the computer system? Dead air city.

Lucas what you just said about Q also described XL 102 before it was dismantled.

At one point this year, XL was the only station making budget.

To reprise the earlier poster, as long as CC owns a property, those at that property are not safe regardless of stature, ratings or pictures of high ranking CC officials with chickens

Hey "New to the West End"

Your post is flawed! Yes Clear Channel does own John Boy and Billy...And you said yourself "it is an expensive show with a huge budget". Therefore that means that CC will spend money if it's worth it! Sure they are trying something new with Dee, at one point JB&B were new. They proved themselves and now they have a huge budget...Clear Channel will support you if you have the numbers. You have to start somewhere why not in a medium market (just like JB&B)! Like it or not Richmond is a starting point in this business not a finishing point!

As far as not being safe in your job. If it's owned by anybody, Clear Channel, Cox, Radio One, or Mom and Pop(yeah right!) you are never safe. You got into the business and you should know that none of us are safe not before, not now, not ever!

In a move that surprised even the most savvy investment bankers and broadcasters, Clear Channel Communications announced today that it had purchased the United States Air Force's EC-130E aircraft that broadcast to the Taliban forces still on the ground in Afghanistan.
Since the conflict began, the aircraft, known in military parlance as Commando Solo, have been flying over war-torn Afghanistan broadcasting pro-American messages. While The Pentagon had no official comment, sources speaking off the record said, "Those idiots will buy anything. This operation ain't even cash-flowing and we got $6,000,000!"In announcing the purchase, Clear Channel President, Randy Michaels said, "We plan no changes to the operation of Commando at all. It's a great, operation and that's why we're buying it."However, sources within Clear Channel say that pink slips have been Issued to all Commando Solo employees and that the station will be voice-tracked immediately. Reuters has learned that Premiere Radio Networks, a CCU subsidiary, sent a letter to longtime Rush Limbaugh affiliate KABUL-AM in Kabul, which read, in part, "Thanks for bringing us to the dance. Up Yours. We're moving Rush to Commando Solo. Meanwhile, the new Commando Solo General Manager instructed his sales manager to attempt to hire every rep at KABUL-FM and immediately announced a bounty of two-sacks of wheat for every rep brought over to Clear Channel.
Commander Azi Azzel of the Northern Alliance praised the move. "While I grant you that it is a harsh move to inflict Clear Channel programming even on Al-Qaida and the Taliban, I have no doubt that this radio equivalent of anthrax will drive them to their knees."A spokesmen for Osama Bin Laden commented, "Mr. Bin Laden appreciates Randy's offer for him to host 'an outrageous morning show in a country where killing pigs on-the-air is OK,' but he is otherwise occupied at the moment and, besides, he can't get FM in his cave."

ClearChannel gobbled up Jacor; now CC's executive programmers are from Jacor. Clear Channel gobbled up AMFM; now all of the Atlantic region's managers are from AMFM.

If history repeats itself, CC's European and Asian managers will soon be replaced by USAF personnel. At Commando Solo, Capt.'s Timberlake and Black are on their way out, too.

In lieu of Usama, CC will build a show around former musician Yusuf Islam (using either the name "the Morning Cat" OR "Shadow Stevens").
Look for more SHOCK radio as women come on the show and are asked to give their opinions and lift their burquas up to their knees.

Middays will be voiced tracked by Achmed Philpoppy from Cairo.

Rush Limbaugh was asked to make the move, but didn't hear it. However, he was incensed after reading the announcement live on the air. In expressing his regret for the move, Rush praised the staunch conservative programming offered by KABUL-FM's Taliban staff and management. He was particularly impressed with their play-by-play coverage of public floggings; at least what he could hear of them.

In a related story, sales of satellite receivers have skyrocketed. Investors are bullish for Q4. Even at the high price of 2 goats and a Kalashnikov, units are flying off the shelves.

Betty come out of retirement on December 4-6. Thor has been away but now Thor is back. Thor asks what should Thor talk about....Lets talk about the lack of sales effort over at Cox. Lets talk about how they don't follow up phone calls, how they don't take advantage of some really good opportunities. They must be doing really well to let money just sit on the table. Way to go boys and girls. Thor is sure Bob Neal would like to know about this and he will. Thor figures its McCall's fault. Stupeman, your lineup is nice but here is my "dream team":

Mornings - Rick Dees
Middays - Lisa McKay
Afternoons - Jon Barry
Hot Nights - Javier
Overnights - Shotgun John

Like I said, it's only a dream!!!!

Thor has the best one liners heard on Richmond radio:

Shadow Murdock. Whats normal is what's normal for you.

Bob Sommers: It's cold enough to freeze the balls off a Christmas Tree.

John Staton to Shotgun John: "That's all for me Shotgun John is up next, Thanks John, it's 6pm straight up, I'm shotgun John....(John & John are the same person).

More from Thor later:

Thor has spoken, Thor is brave, Thor is wise, Thor at at ESPN today.

I like the way Jake (on Q) called his momma a b*tch last night. It was so sweet.
Ok, he bleeped it out, but still it warmed my heart to hear such a nice sentiment from such a swell guy.
Keep up the good work and continue to shout as loud as you can into the microphone, Jake.
And never worry about what I say because I have no real power. I am just a bitter wanna be. A listener. A parent. A consumer. An ex-Q fan.

Shadow was such a ho. He stole that line from Kenny Durbin!

Did Kenny Durban steal that line directly from Timothy Leary, or from the many who quoted him?

Why would anyone quote Kenny Durban? Thor would like to know. Where is Kenny? Why is Lucas quoting Kenny, Lucas did you wipe Kenny's windows at the WaWa store? Thor would like to know. Hey Lucas, did you notice Thor did not quote you? The sad thing is this Lucas. Since FM radio travels forever through space, your air shifts will last forever as they travel through the universe, Thor hopes there are no aliens out there...what would they think of Earthlings if all they had to go by was the Lucas show? Thor has spoken, Thor is brave, Thor is wise, Thor is watching "Enterprise" right now.

Lucas didn't quote Kenny. Shadow quoted Kenny. And Thor quoted Kenny circuitously by quoting Shadow.

Lucas is hopeful that the physical laws of the universe remain constant and the first 15 years of "Lucas Foxx Radio" will continue forever in infinity.
Aliens listening to this past saturday night's show, will know better than to EVER try to attack us. Sgt. Hartman and Bugs Bunny will kick their •••!

"Tune out, Thor."-Timothy Leary to Thor when Thor was young.

Why is Jake Glenn still on the air? Even though he shouts into the mic you still can't understand what he's saying because the music bed drowns him out. Horrible!!! Guess you get what you pay for!

Star107 is in the Arboretum off Midlothian. PD is Lisa McKay and I believe their business line is 327-9902, if not call their request line for it 345-1073.

Since no one is reading this board anymore, I feel safe to tell everyone who I really am. I am not Thor I am really Lucas Foxx. Yes, the entire time I was cutting down Lucas, I was really cutting down myself. So there you have it,
Lucas = Thor and Thor = Lucas. Bye for now. Oh and for the 3rd person stuff, it's just to annoy everyone, did it work?

I've got to admit, Lucas Foxx is not Thor, Thor is Jim Jacobs. It's the only way I could get any attention. I guess it didn't work casue the numbers keep going down. So from now on I will be Thor on the air and off the air too. My new legal name is Thor is Thor.
